Wilton Parish helps Liberia.
On a recent visit to America Fr. Michael met up with a group of Liberian men who 30 years ago had been young altar boys in his parish while he was in Monrovia, Liberia. Those young boys have now grown into strong mature men. In the intervening years all of them have been affected by the murderous civil war that has ravaged Liberia. All were displaced from their homes and some ended up in refugee camps in Ghana or Nigeria. Some of them lost family members in the war.
All of them have, by one means or another, found their way to America and are now seeking to establish themselves in Donald Trump’s America. This presents them with another uncertain future. They are an example of human resilience. Sometimes we think life can be unfair!
And yet in spite of all their life struggles these young men are now challenging themselves to raise money in support of a restoration project to help rebuild their church in Monrovia. It was great to meet with them and offer them the support of our Parish Monthly charity for June which amounted to €608. Our parish has been fantastic in support of various charities but this was one that we, as an SMA parish, should feel proud to offer support. Liberia has played a big part in the life of the SMA over the years. Its people have shown great resilience as they try once again to pick up their lives after the years of terrible carnage.
The young men wish to acknowledge our support and assure us of our prayers.
